LIMITED EDITION ANCIENT REDGUM ASSEGAI PENDANT
A limited edition Assegai Pendant, handmade by the artist from Ancient Redgum.
Ancient Redgum is a pre-fossilised version of the Australian Native Timber Eucalyptus camaldulensis - usually deep red, but turned deep black with time. It originates from a tree that would have fallen during flooding caused by the melting of the glaciers feeding the Murray River at the end of the last ice age. Buried by the raging prehistoric Murray, the timber was rapidly buried beneath silt and preserved underground for thousands of years, and was only encountered during CSR mining operations occurring in the Wodonga area. It is one of the rarest and most beautiful timbers in the world.
It has been independently carbon dated by the University of Waikato in New Zealand to be around 9000 years old.
